Kick-Ass 2 Doesn’t Kick Very Many Asses, Opens in 4th Place

Jeff Wadlow’s “Kick-Ass 2″ had a lot of publicity heading into theaters this weekend. Most of which it probably wished it didn’t have — such as star Jim Carrey basically denouncing the film’s teen-centric violence, though the actor did attempt to couch it in terms of his sudden decision not to promote the movie as being a personal stance rather than the film’s, you know, shortcomings. This weekend, the film opened in 4th place, behind “The Butler” (which took the top spot) and a pair of holdovers from last week, “We’re the Millers” (in surprising 2nd place) and Neill Blomkamp’s “Elysium”, which fell to third place in its second week. “Kick-Ass 2′s” studio estimated $13.5 million haul is well below the first movie’s $19.8 million.
